BorNEO

About Borneo

There is nothing like coming face to face with an orangutan. Their intelligence and their similarities to us are immediately obvious, making them a wonder to watch and interact with. A trip to Borneo is primarily about seeing the orangs, and there are plenty of ways to do so. You can visit the rehabilitation centers in Kuching and Sandakan, or head up the Kinabatagan River to a jungle lodge to spot wild orangutans. The orangs aren't the only wildlife that you cannot see anywhere else. The Bornean Sun Bear, proboscis monkeys, and more all make their home on Borneo. Then there's the stunning natural beauty, including lush jungles and massive cave systems. It's truly a nature-lover's paradise.

You can also visit one of the many dayak tribal communities that still live together, blending their traditions with modern life in the longhouses. World War II buffs will be fascinated by the role that Borneo played under Japanese occupation, particularly in Sandakan where there was a famous POW camp. But the orangutans will always be the stars of the island.
