Day 1 - Arrival in Managua

Arrive at Managua International Airport. Complimentary hotel shuttle bus to Hotel Camino Real at Managua airport.

Day 2 – León Viejo – City Tour León – San Jacinto Hot Springs – León

After breakfast at the hotel, meet with your guide and begin your tour. Visit “Leon Viejo”, this was the first capital of Nicaragua. In December 2000, León Viejo was added to an exclusive list of less than 600 historical and archaeological sites recognized worldwide for their importance to human history. A visit will enable you to get to know a great deal of Nicaraguan History.

Check into Hotel La Perla in Leon before heading out on a tour of Leon City. Visit some of the many Cathedrals of Leon, and the Ortiz Gurdían Art Gallery, which features many artists from Europe and Central America.

Day 3 - León – Masaya National Park – Masaya Market – Catarina – Granada

After breakfast, head out to Granada. Along the way, visit the Masaya National Park, home to an active volcano of the same name. The volcano became Nicaragua's first national park in 1979 and has five different craters. Then visit the Handicraft Market to see traditional Nicaraguan folk art before heading to the charming villages of Catarina and La Meseta.

Head to Granada and checking to the Hotel Patio del Malinche.

Day 4 - Granada City Tour & Boat Tour Las Isletas

Start your day with a half day city tour of Granada on a horse drawn carriage. Our list of “must sees” includes the Convento San Francisco with its ancient statues from Zapatera Island, La Merced church with its stunning view of the city, the Casa de los Tres Mundos, the Old Train Station and La Polvora fort. Then head to Lake Nicaragua, the second largest fresh water lake in Latin America. Explore the lush vegetation and the rich bird life of the many isletas in Lake Nicaragua by boat.

Day 5 - Granada – Ometepe – Managua

After breakfast, drive to San Jorge to catch the ferry to Ometepe. Upon arriving to the island, take a tour of the El Ceiba archeological museum, the Charco Verde Reserve, Ojo de Agaua, lagoon, and the Finca El Provenir to see petroglyphs. Lunch on Santo Domingo beach. Take the ferry back to the mainland and then transfer to the Hotel Camino Real in Managua.

Day 6 - Managua

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by hotel shuttle to the airport.

Day 1: Managua – Granada

Arrival in Managua and transfer to Granada. Accommodation at your hotel located in the historic part of Granada.

Day 2: Granada City – Lake Nicaragua (B)

After breakfast we will visit this colonial city, Founded in 1524 along the shores of the “Sweet sea”, Granada represents an elegant and historical city in Nicaragua. Being currently restored, it is becoming one of the pearls of the colonial cities in Central America.

In the afternoon we will go to Lake Nicaragua.  The captain will be waiting to take you on a boat ride and discover some of its 356 islands “isletas”. The inhabitants (“Isleños”) live peacefully in simple yet decent conditions and dedicate themselves to fishing and small agriculture.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 3: Granada - Ometepe – Tour of the Island (B)

At 8.00 AM departure from Granada to Ometepe Island. Take the ferry and enjoy the magnificent views of the two volcanoes of Ometepe: Concepcion and Maderas rising up from the lake. Upon arrival, discover the island’s petroglyphs drawn by the indigenous natives, Ojo de Agua (natural underground waterfall), charco verde natural reserve and more. Lunch at Santo Domingo Beach.

In the afternoon, observe birds and monkeys on the island or visit main parts of the island which is visible on the horizon from this side of the island. Overnight in your hotel.

Day 4: Ometepe – Managua (B)

Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free to explore in this natural paradise. Many tours and trips can be easily arranged from your hotel (horse back riding, hiking, kayak, biking, etc). Transportation and ferry back to mainland included. Upon arrival in San Jorge , drive to Managua. Overnight in Managua.

*Your last night might be in Granada instead of the airport hotel in Managua. That would be preferable unless your flight home is early in the morning. That would enable you to leave your luggage at the hotel in Granada and just take an overnight bag to Ometepe Island.

Nicaragua Culture, Adventure and Beach (6 days/5 nights)

Day 1: Arrive – Managua.

Arrive in Managua. Meet and greet by your guide who will provide you with important information and vouchers for your trip. Transfer to your hotel in Managua.

Day 2: Managua – Leon Viejo – Leon City – Leon (B)
After breakfast transfer to Leon City, on the way we will stop in Leon Viejo, this tour gives you the opportunity to see the ruins of the first capital of Nicaragua, founded in 1524 by Spanish captain Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. Unlike Granada, this city moved to its present location in 1610. The ruins of the original León were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. This was the capital of Nicaragua for more than 200 years before being replaced by Managua in 1851. León's cathedral is the largest religious colonial building in Central America. The remains of the internationally known poet Ruben Dario are resting there. Enjoy a visit to the Museum Ruben Dario, Art Galley Ortiz Gurdian (one of the best private art galleries in Latin America). We will end our tour with a visit to the San Jacinto volcanic fields overlooking the impressive volcanic chain of Nicaragua.

Day 3: Masaya Area – Granada (B)

Breakfast in your hotel. Visit the First National Park created in Nicaragua in 1979, one of Nicaragua's most interesting and beautiful natural phenomena. It comprises an area of 54 km2 with more than 20 km of scenic roads and trails, leading to and around an impressive volcano and five formidable craters. One of them currently displays gaseous activity and incandescent lava in its interior. You can also visit the Museum that offers interesting history and legends.
  

Then we will visit the finest Handicraft Market where you will enjoy the creativity and variety of Nicaraguan art at bargain prices. Later transfer to Catarina Lookout. Catarina is a small and characteristic village of Nicaragua where people work seedling nurseries and raise horses. Placed on top of a hill at 520 meters over the sea level, it has a very agreeable climate. The temperature is between 22 and 27 degrees.  You can have a magnificent view of the Apoyo lagoon, Mombacho volcano, Granada and Lake Nicaragua. After lunch, go to San Juan de Oriente, famous for its ceramic arts.

Day 4: Visit Granada and Lake Nicaragua (B)

Today, take an excursion to Granada, the third oldest city in the Western Hemisphere. Granada was founded in 1524 by Spanish captain Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba. Although often overrun by pirates, destroyed during civil wars and set on fire by the American William Walker in 1856, it remains one of the most beautiful cities in Nicaragua. You can take a carriage ride throughout Granada to appreciate its beautiful architecture. In the afternoon, we will end our trip with a boat ride to the beautiful islands of Lake Nicaragua.

Day 5: Granada – San Juan del Sur (B)
Transfer to San Juan del Sur which is a small and very nice typical fishermen port located in the southwest, placed along a bay that overlooks the Pacific Ocean 90 kms west of Granada and 55 Kms from Costa Rica's frontier. Enclosed by prehistoric volcanic hills, San Juan del Sur is characterized by a 2 Kms wide sandy beach, with very good climate year round.  You can go surfing, and deep sea fishing and swimming.

Day 6: San Juan del Sur – Managua airport (B)

Drive to San Jacinto, a small village located between two volcanoes where they have “Hervideros.” These geysers are so hot that they leave permanent marks on the ground.

Day 3: León – Masaya Active Volcano – Handicraft Market – White Villages – Granada

After breakfast, begin heading toward Granada. Along the way, stop to visit Masaya Volcano, home to Nicaragua's first National Park. Visit the Handicraft Market and the charming white villages of Catarina and La Meseta to see traditional Nicaraguan life. Enjoy lunch at Apoyo Lagoon.

Upon arrival in Granada, check into the Hotel Patio del Malinche.

Day 4: Granada City Tour – Motor Boat Tour in Lake Nicaragua & the Islands – Granada

After breakfast, take a horse-drawn carriage tour through Granada. Visit the La Casa de los Tres Mundos art gallery, the Convento San Francisco, La Merced Church with this beautiful views, the Old Train Station and La Polvora fort.

In the afternoon, head to Lake Nicaragua for a cruise around the 356 isletas that were created by an eruption from the now-extinct Mombacho volcano. Some of the islands are inhabited, and many are full of tropical birds and other animals.

Return to Granada.

Day 5: Granada – San Jorge – Ometepe Island

After breakfast, transfer to San Jorge to take the ferry to Ometepe Island (1 hour).

Upon arrival on Ometepe Island, visit El Ceiba archeological msueum, the Green Puddles Lagoon, Charco Verde Reserve and eat lunch at Santo Domingo beach.

After lunch, visit El Ojo de Agua lagoon and the petroglyphs at Finca El Porvenir.

Overnight at Hotel San Juan de la Isla.

Day 6: Ometepe Island – San Jorge – Managua Airport

In the morning, transfer to the docks and take the ferry back to the mainland. Then transfer to Managua for your flight home.
