PM Start your exploration with the Arco Iris Temple (Dragon) from the Chimu Culture. Then visit the archeological complex of Chan Chan. This place was home to 100,000 habitants who stubbornly resisted the expansion of the Inca Empire. The archaeological remains of Chan Chan, 6 Km. (3.7 miles) northeast of Trujillo, are well preserved although built with mud bricks (“adobe”)Then continue to Huanchaco, a traditional seaside village, where you can watch the local fishermen on their “Caballitos de Totora” or reed boats. TRUJILLO

AM Arrive in the Moche valley where you will be received by a traditional family that descends from the ancient people who built the Sun and the Moon pyramids, the center of power in the northern coast of Peru during Moche times. See a stunning set of mud-brick friezes on the walls of the Temple of the Moon excavated by archaeologists. End your visit looking at several artifacts and tombs of the Mochica Culture at the onsite museum Huacas de Moche, which displays various utensils and high artistic ceramics.*Shared service*

TRUJILLO - CHICLAYO

Early in the morning, drive north of Trujillo to the Archaeological Complex of "El Brujo". Discover the mystery of an ornately  tattooed  1,600 year-old-Mummy unearthed in this archaeological complex, and preserved  for centuries,  thanks  to a  meticulous treatment  and  ancient ritual that included the application of cinnabar, a red  mineral  that inhibits the de-composition of the skin and  tissues.  Continue to Chiclayo to visit the impressive necropolis of  Huaca Rajada, where several tombs have been recently discovered.  The best known belongs to the "Lord of Sipan" and the "Old Lord of Sipan", unearthed in 1988  and 1989 respectively by Dr Walter Alva and a UCLA archeologist.

Enjoy a typical lunch at a local restaurant, before you proceed  to the modern and majestic Museum of the Royal Tombs of Sipan  with its displays of dramatization of the life of the  Sipan lord  and his royal court.  The three-floor center  is formed  in a pyramid,  inspired  by  the Mochica sanctuaries, bringing together the past, present and future of the  Lambayeque culture.  All the  exhibits are original pieces  and each  has been  carefully  cleaned  and restored to the  minutest detail. The Lord of Sipan is  believed to be one of the most important figures of ancient Peru buried in this architectural jewel. *Private  service*

Enjoy the recent discovery of the oldest mural paintings in America, located in a ceremonial center more than 4 000 years old, Near to the tombs of the Lords of Sipán.  Sipán belongs to the Moche culture and is considered the most important ceremonial center of the north. The site consists of two platforms that were built with solid blocks of adobe, with an altar on top. The main platform would have been about 35 meters high. The cemetery is located on one side and at the time had the appearance of a platform. However, this mausoleum had six levels or construction phases. Each level corresponded to a main character. The Lord of Sipan and the priest, for example, were buried on the sixth level. The museum has objects found in tomb 14. This tomb belonged to an important Moche elite, known as the "warrior priest". With him were the remains of a young woman and a flame, and many gilded copper jewelry.

Túcume is an imposing complex of 26 pyramids from the Lambayeque culture.The museum tells the story of the legendary Naylamp, founder of the Lambayeque culture. Huaca Las Balsas is a small mound that is located on the southwest corner of the Túcume complex with several overlapping construction phases, all decorated with magnificent murals and beautiful reliefs with mythological motifs. This place is associated with a residential and domestic sector that included a kitchen, rooms and pens.

AREQUIPA – COLCA CANYON

Leaving the city via Yura, you will enter Pampa Cañahuas Reserve, an extensive plain where you can see vicuñas, the indigenous Andean camelid  that is a national symbol. Then go to Vizcachani, Pampas de Toccra, up to the crater of the Chucura volcano and on to Los Andes Viewpoint at Patapampa  (4800 m.a.s.l.), where the volcanoes surrounding Arequipa can be seen. Lunch will be served in the village of Chivay and in the afternoon you can rest in the hotel or visit the thermal springs at La Calera. *Shared Services*

COLCA CANYON / AREQUIPA

After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Condor’s Cross to see the Colca Valley (the second deepest canyon in the world, with more than 4 kilometers at its deepest part) followed by an astonishing sight: the great and majestic condor flying only a few meters away. On the way back to Chivay you will pass through the villages of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma, Yanque and the view points at Antahuilque and Choquetico. PM Half day city tour and Santa Catalina convent.  A visit to Juanita, the Ice Maiden is a must.  Discovered frozen in 1995, the body of this 11-15 year old Inca girl was very well preserved. #1- Inca Trail Express: 2 days/1 night

Take the train part way to Machu Picchu. At Km 104, you start hiking to the Chachabamba site, and then on a four hour ascent to Winay Wayna, an important spiritual site. You follow the Inca trail across the ridge above Machu Picchu to Intipunku, the "Door of the Sun". From there the trail winds downhill with a panoramic vista into the lost citadel of Machu Picchu and the Urubamba Valley river. Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

AMAZON: PUERTO MALDONADO

Travel through this endless emerald jungle by boat. Fly from Cuzco to Puerto Maldonado. Roads are almost non-existent. You will navigate the waterways of the Amazon and its tributaries to the sound of the rustling of monkeys and other creatures moving around under the lush canopy. Canoeing will give you the opportunity to see bird and water life in the Amazon, as well as the amazing variety of flora and fauna. Jungle walks will enable you to see the colors and life under the canopy. Tribal village visits are sometimes included.

There are multiple lodges available for 3 day/2 night stays. You fly from Cuzco and can choose from some of the better lodges. Prices listed include full board, river and lake exploration, jungle walks, roundtrip transfers from the airport to the lodge by boat. Most lodges are basic.
