Itinerary
DAY 1
Arrive in Delhi and transfer to your hotel.
DAY 2
After breakfast, start by visiting the Red Fort, built when the Mughals moved their capitol from Agra to Delhi. From there, head to the Jama Masjid mosque, the largest in India, able to hold over 25,000 worshippers. Enjoy a rickshaw ride through the streets of Old Delhi, then visit Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Stop at India Gate, then pay a visit to the gardens of Humayun's Tomb.
DAY 3
After breakfast, drive to Agra and visit Itmad-Ud-Daula along the way. This mausoleum is often called the "Baby Taj" because of its similarities to the Taj Mahal. It exhibits a strong Persian influence. Upon arriving in Agra, check into your hotel.
DAY 4
After breakfast, take a tour of the Taj Mahal, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a memorial to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal and is considered the jewel of Muslim art in India. From there, head to Agra Fort, part of the main palace of the Mughal Emperors when their capital was located in Agra.
DAY 5
After breakfast, start the drive to Jaipur. Stop for lunch at the Umaid Lake Palace, a beautiful resort located in the Rajasthani countryside. Enjoy a Juggad ride through the local villages to see how they live. Continue on to Jaipur and check into your hotel upon arrival.
DAY 6
After breakfast, visit the Amber Fort, a stunning blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture that kept Jaipur residents safe during its many wars. From there, stop at the Hawa Mahal Palace for photos, one of the most iconic buildings in Jaipur. Head to the City Palace, still occupied by the former royal family, and Jantar Mantar astronomical park.
DAY 7
After breakfast, drive to Jodhpur with sightseeing a long the way.
DAY 8
After breakfast, take a tour of the Mehrangarh Fort overlooking the city. This stunning fort was built in the 15th century when the capital was moved from Mandore. In the afternoon, head to the Bishnoi villages for a safari game drive to see local animals and the traditional lifestyle of these villagers.
DAY 9
After breakfast, head to Udaipur and stop to visit the Ranakpur Jain Temples, one of the five holiest places for the Jain community. Upon arrival in Udaipur, check into your hotel.
DAY 10
After breakfast, take a tour of the beautiful City Palace that towers over Pichola Lake. From there, visit the Sahelion Ki Bari, or "the garden of the maidens." This beautiful garden with four pools and several fountains operates soley with water pressue and no pumps. In the evening, enjoy a boat ride along Lake Pichola for a scenic view of the lake and the mountains.
DAY 11
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival in Mumbai, transfer to your hotel.
DAY 12
After breakfast, take a tour of the Elephanta Caves via boat. From there, visit the Gateway of India, built to commemorate King George and Queen Mary's visit to India in 1911. Then stop at Mani Bhawan, one of Mahatma Gandhi's homes. Drive along Marine Drive and visit one of the last Towers of Silence in Mumbai. Part of Parsi culture, a major faction in Mumbai's diverse heritage, these structures are where the community still practices the ancient rite of sky burial.
DAY 13
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight home.
